Apollo and the python of delphi
When Apollo was only four days old, he was already strong and built, and had his silver bow and golden arrow, which later on in his life, he had a golden bow. He heard about the disasterous Python of Delphi, and he soon decided to try to slay the creature. Later on, Apollo made his way to the creature's cave on Mount Parnassus, in central Greece. After seeing young Apollo, the Python filled with rage, and god mad, mad, and even more mad. The Python tried to strike first, but Apollo was just too quick for the deadly creature. Immediately after that, Apollo responded by shooting his bow and arrow right at the Python of Delphi, and then soon slayed the creature. Apollo was filled with so much joy, he played his lute in celebration, and filled the people on Mount Parnassus with joy, and that's how he became the god of music.
Apollo and the laurel
When Apollo was young, he had a crush on his later "wife" Daphne. After seeing her one day, Apollo chased Daphne through the woods. Daphne was so scared, she called her dad, the Greek Thessalian River god, Peneus. Peneus was so mad at Apollo, he turned his beloved daughter into a tree. Apollo was so devestated by the events that happened to his "wife," he tore off a laurel (branch) off the tree, (Daphne) twisted the branch, and then wore it around his head for the rest of his life, in memory of the beautiful Daphne. That's why when you see a picture of Apollo, he's wearing a branch on his head.
Apollo and the donkey ears
Apollo was a very skillful lute and lyre player, and played at most of the feasts of the gods. At one feast, a king, King Midas showed up at the feast invited. Most of the time there were different musicians, including the god of music himself, Apollo. Everybody at the feast was delighted with Apollo's playing, and thought he was the best out of all of them. King Midas loved Apollo's lute and lyre playing, but thought one of the other musicians was better. Apollo got so mad, furious and full of rage, he turned King Midas' ears into donkey ears.
